A little less whine this Thanksgiving
We advertising types tend to complain a lot.
If you’re a creative, you complain about the client and account people.
If you’re account, you complain about the client and creatives.
And if you’re media, you complain that the drinks weren’t strong enough at the free party you went to last night.
Yes, it’s tough being us, isn’t it?
It’s tough coming in to work later than almost any other industry.
It’s tough having to occasionally wash our jeans and t-shirts so we have something to wear around the office.
It’s tough collaborating with interesting people from the music, editing, production and photography industries.
It’s tough working in an office where someone inevitably has a fridge stocked with beer. Good beer.
And it’s really tough spending our days creating things that could potentially entertain, inform or inspire millions of people.
Yes, we have to work long hours on occasion. And yes, we have to deal with difficult people from time to time. But how does this differ from any other job out there?
The difference is, in advertising, many of of us can actually wake up excited for the day ahead. We can look forward to yet another opportunity to flex our creative muscles and have fun in the process.
I’d say that’s something to be thankful for.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
