Ideas without action are awesome
I often see people post something along the lines of,
“ideas without action are a waste.”
It sounds so purposeful and responsible. Which may be why this POV is being shared even more often during the COVID pandemic.
But I think this is the exact wrong way to think about ideas,
and how they can become reality.
Not all ideas become things.
In fact, most don’t.
And that’s good.
We don’t have the capacity to make everything.
And most ideas simply aren’t that great
But it’s great that we have so many of them.
Because they are the fuel from which other,
often better ideas are born.
Thinking begets more thinking.
It’s a wonderfully virtuous cycle.
One we should encourage to continue,
so that we ultimately generate the best ideas.
Ones worthy of action.
In the meantime, let’s not shit on the very process
that brings those into the world.
Keep thinking.
Keep dreaming.
Keep ideating, if you must use that word.
And on occasion, yes, turn those ideas into actual things.
But for the most part?
Don’t.
