More than advertising
We want to advertising like Apple’s.
Sure thing. When are you going to start making products like Apple’s?
Huh, why would we do that?
So we can create advertising that actually reflects who you are as a brand.
But I want you to tell people who we are as a brand.
Okay, we’d be happy to create ads that highlight your mediocre product lineup.
What? No. We want you to say that we’re like Apple.
But you’re not like Apple.
Well, no, but can’t you convince people that we are?
So they will try out your product and be disappointed when it is nothing like Apple’s?
Um, no. You guys can write package copy that tells everyone how great our product is.
But it’s not great.
Sure, but it’s your job to make it sound great.
No, it’s our job to tell your story in an entertaining way. It’s your job to actually be great.

But you’re our ad agency, that’s not what you do.
