Some Thursday thoughts on Thursdays
Today is my 2,812th Thursday.
I love Thursdays. Filled with anticipation for the weekend. Fond memories of Must-See-TV from back in the day. And fuzzy memories of Thirsty Thursdays, when I worked in NYC and home was always a cab or train ride away.
Now, as I approach my 54th birthday in June, my perspective on Thursdays has shifted a bit. I still love them, even if they’re not quite so thirsty. But I also wonder, how many more of them will I get? (Spoiler alert: it’s about 1,200. If I’m lucky).
As Jodi Wellman, future DesuckifyWork™ Podcast guest and author of You Only Die Once (out next Month) says, “We get about 4,000 weeks in our lives and it's up to us how we spend them. How much life do we want in our lives?”
How many Thursdays will we spend doing work we hate? Sitting in meetings talking about nonsense? Or seeking approval from others to validate our existence instead of appreciating the miracle that we exist?
I’m a fan of existing.
I’m also fan of work—when it doesn’t suck. Work that connects to my sense of purpose and potential. Work that gives me a chance to solve problems and make something better than when it showed up in my world.
So, it’s my goal to spend a whole bunch of Thursdays doing just that. I may not always succeed, but I’m desuckifying daily. It’s a practice, like meditation. Or keeping my middle finger fully furled when yet another slow-ass Arizona driver decides to park it in the left lane.
If you’d like to join me in this practice, let me know.
I help creatives 35 and up get creative with their careers. I work with individuals looking for less suck in their days and with agencies looking to help creatives become creative leaders.
Let’s desuckify together!
