To tease or not to tease?
Interesting blog post on TalentZoo.com today about how much work to show on your portfolio site. The author thinks you should tease with just a few pieces. I think you need to do more. Here’s my comment that I left on the page:
“I’m with the ‘yes and no’ crowd on this one. Not sure you can wait for the interview to show more work. Your site is the tool that gets you the interview. It’s a test, not a tease. Once you’re in, it’s time to talk about the work, not show more of it. To be honest, I rarely show any work during an interview. As you’ve said, your portfolio isn’t the full story. Well, the interview is the time to tell your full story. How do you work? What kind of person are you? What interests do you have outside of work? What can you bring to the agency that we don’t already have?
That said, the ability to edit your work down to the best stuff is critical. And it’s not easy. But it should be an ongoing process, where you constantly refine your site so that it best reflects who you are and gives you the best chance to get that interview.”
Curious what everyone else thinks. Is your online portfolio a test or a tease?
