We must be idiots
We’re idiots, right?
I can’t see any other way to make sense of how little we value the work we do. We toil for hours on end to make our clients happy. We push our brains to the edge day in and day out, trying to find the ‘magic’ solution to the problem(s) of the day. We obsess to the point of pathology over every last detail on every project, no matter how small.
And yet, somehow, we don’t think we deserve to get paid for all of it.
Idiots.
Now, it seems this ongoing self-hate fest has led many clients to believe they can tighten the vise around what remains of our balls and drive our revenues even lower.
That’s right, more and more agencies are now being forced to submit to 'reverse auctions’. In case you’re wondering, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Agencies bid to see who can peddle their apparently worthless wares for the most insultingly low price. Best of all, it’s done electronically so we can receive near immediate confirmation of our non-existent self esteem.
Idiots.
What’s next? Are we going to start paying to do all of this hard work?
Oh wait, we already do that. It’s called a pitch.
Idiots.
